Wonga Beach State School is situated in a truly unique part of the world. We are nestled between two World Heritage listed areas, with the magnificent Daintree Rainforest on one side of us and the spectacular Great Barrier Reef on the other side. We have endeavoured to ensure that the students at our school appreciate and look after our beautiful environment. Teaching and learning about sustainability has become a major focus at our school and has been integrated across the KLAs.
Our program is highly regarded and has been the recipient of numerous awards.
2008- G&HS WaterWise Award, State finalist Showcase Awards Middle Phase.
2007- Qld's Greenest & Healthiest School, Douglas Shire Council Environmental Education Award.
2006- Young Cassowary Award (Wet Tropics Environmental Awards)
2005- Excellence in Reef Gaurdianship (GRMPA's top award)
Our program is project based and involves the students researching, designing and constructing learnscapes or running projects to reduce our resource consumption.
